Course Description:

Participants in the three-day CHAMPs training session will receive information included in the CHAMPs text: "CHAMPS: A Proactive and Positive Approach to Classroom Management," by Randy Sprick, 2nd Edition, 2009, published by Pacific Southwest Publishing. "CHAMPS" is designed to assist classroom teachers in developing (or fine tuning) an effective classroom management plan that is proactive, positive, and instructional. The nine chapters in the text focus on developing a vision for the classroom, classroom organization and management, teaching classroom rules and expectations, observing and monitoring behavior, motivating students, correction procedures, and classwide motivation systems.

Additional information provided during the training will include tips for implementation of: class meetings, positive interactions, and positive behavior support strategies.

Participants will need to purchase a copy of the CHAMPS text prior to the beginning of the course. Ordering information is available at www.safeandcivilschools.com. (A limited number of copies are available for check-out from the course instructor. Please email the instructor at maureen.gale@ocps.net to inquire about availability.)

Participants will be required to attend all three training sessions in order to receive inservice points for the workshop. In addition, course criteria includes: reading assignments, participation in class discussions and homework assignments. Additional inservice points may be earned through the completion of homework assignments. All participants will receive a materials binder with handouts, references, and valuable resources. 20 inservice points are available to participants who complete all sessions and homework.

At least a 24-Hour cancellation is required if for some reason you are unable to attend the course. Please cancel your registration on signmup so that the participant slot is available for others. Non-attendance without a cancellation will be reported to schools.
